The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has released a major update that impacts all UPS (Uninterruptible Power System) manufacturers and license holders in India.The old standard IS 16242 (Part 1):2014 / IEC 62040-1:2008 has been revised and replaced by IS 16242 (Part 1):2025 / IEC 62040-1:2017. This is not just a minor change — it introduces new safety, performance, and testing requirements that every manufacturer must follow.
IS 16242 (Part 1):2025 is the latest BIS standard for UPS systems in India, harmonized with the IEC 62040-1:2017 international standard.
It covers all safety and performance requirements that UPS systems must meet before being sold in the Indian market. By adopting the updated standard, BIS aims to ensure better safety, reliability, and global compatibility of UPS products.
